CTSA K12 Award Request for Training Applications
This notice serves as a request for applications from junior faculty in the Dental, Medical, Nursing and Veterinary Schools who are interested in securing a training slot in the CTSA K12 program. The program is directed towards providing protected time for the initiation of a research career in addition to formalized didactic training. Two categories of applicants are being solicited, distinguished by their level of research training, experience, and accomplishments.
Category 1 applicants will be seeking to enter and complete a masters degree in either Epidemiology (MSCE) or Translational Research (MTR). Appointment of these trainees will be from July 1, 2007 until June 30, 2009.
Category 1 applicants are asked to submit a one page personal statement attesting to their commitment to a research career, a 2-3 page summary of their intended area of research, a current CV, three letters of support along with the completed application forms for the masters training program they are seeking to enter. The applications forms for the MTR Program can be accessed at http://www.med.upenn.edu/mtr. The application forms for the MSCE program can be obtained by contacting Shanta Layton shanta2@mail.med.upenn.edu. letters of support should be supplied by the applicants mentor(s) in addition to his/her division chief and /or department chair. Please submit 18 hard copies of each completed application to Emma Meagher at HUP 9053 West Gates Pavilion, 3400 Spruce St., Phila. PA 19104.Category 2 applicants will be individuals who have previous research training (e.g., previously matriculated in the MTR or MSCE programs) AND who have a K23 application under review.
Category 2 applicants are required to submit a copy of their K23 submission (25 page training and science portion only), a 1 to 2 page summary of their proposed training and a 1 to 2 page summary of their research plan under the K12 award in addition to their CV, personal statement, and three letters of support. The letters of support should be supplied by the applicants mentor(s) in addition to his/her division chief and /or department chair.
