CTSA K12 - Request for Applications

This notice serves as a request for applications from senior fellows, instructors and junior faculty in the first 2 years of their faculty appointment in the Dental, Medical, Nursing and Veterinary Schools who are interested in securing a training slot in the CTSA K12 program. The award is directed towards providing protected time for research trainees who’s clinical and translational research is focused on the elucidation of mechanistic and therapeutic aspects of disease process and all categories of research focused on bridging the information gap between pediatric and adult medicine.

Accepted students will be expected to participate in formal research training relevant to their research endeavor by enrollment in and completion of either a Master of Science degree in either Epidemiology (MSCE) or Translational Research (MTR).

Appointment of trainees will be from July 1, 2010 until June 30, 2012. The award will provide salary support to provide 80% protected time up to a maximum of $90,000 per year. Applicants must be US citizens or have permanent resident status.

The application procedure involves a 2 part process

PART ONE:

Applicants are asked to submit a one page personal statement detailing their commitment to a research career consistent with the goals of the CTSA K12 program, a one paragraph description of their proposed area of research and the name(s) of their mentor(s).

These materials will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the CSTA K12 selection committee. Those applicants whose research meets the goals and eligibility criteria described above will be invited, by email, to complete part 2 of the application process as described below.

PART TWO:

Applicants will be asked to submit a 2-3 page description of their intended area of research, a current CV, three letters of support together with the completed application form for the Masters training program they are seeking to enter.

The letters of support should be supplied by the applicants mentor(s) in addition to his/her division chief and /or department chair. Individuals supplying letters of support are requested to also complete an additional candidate evaluation form that will be provided to them.

Please submit via email a completed (including the letters of support) stage 2 application to Emma Meagher – emma@upenn.edu. Deadline for completion of Part 2 is November 13th, 2009.
