2009 JIPGP Awardees

CTRC Junior Investigator Pilot Grant Program (JIPGP) Award announcement

The Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC), which is part of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics (ITMAT), is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2009-2010 Junior Investigator Pilot Grant Program (JIPGP) awards. The JIPGP award is intended to support the work of promising junior investigators by providing grant support of up to $20,000 per year (for up to two years) as well as reduced cost access to the infrastructure and support services of the CTRC.

There were a total of 29 applications, and the following 8 have been selected for funding.

  • 1. Neha Vapiwala, MD, Radiation Oncology. Title: Acquisition of Prostate Tissue During Electromagnetic Transponder Placement for Imaging Correlation and Biomarker Analysis of Targeted Radiosensitizers
  • 2. Jose Pascual-Lopez, MD, PhD, Surgery. Title: HTS vs Mannitol for Brain Injury: An RCT seeking Mechanism of Action
  • 3. James Lee, MD, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Allergy/Immunology. Title: Dietary Antioxidant Therapy for the Prevention of Primary Graft Dysfunction in Lung Transplantation
  • 4. Colin Greineder, MD, PhD, Department of Emergency Medicine. Title: Endothelial Targeted Antioxidant Enzymes During Cardiac Arrest
  • 5. Rajat Deo, MD, Cardiovascular Medicine. Title: Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone System and Cardiac Arrhythmias

  • 7. Meghan Marsac, PhD, Department of Psychology, Pediatrics. Title: Initial Development of the Coping with Trauma Inventory for Children
  • 8. Dorit Koren, MD, Division of Endocrinology, Pediatrics. Title: Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) and Beta-cell Biomass in Newly Diagnosed Pediatric Type 1 Diabetes
