    Gabriela's Certificate Experience

For my Ph.D. in Pharmacology, I focused on oncology research in a lab that closely works with patients. My career goal is to work on clinically relevant research studies that quickly can be applied to patient treatment. With this goal in mind, I joined the lab of Dr. Yael Mosse at CHOP who works on the treatment of pediatric cancer, Neuroblastoma. In the past three years, I worked with patients’ samples and I have seen how genomic research can be applied in changing how a patient’s disease is evaluated and what therapy is applied. Working in a translation lab, I have understood how important collaboration between industry and academia is in the development of successful therapies. To better understand how successful drugs are developed, I decided to pursue the Certificate in Regulatory Science to learn about clinical trials, FDA regulations and requirements for drug approval, as well pharmaceutical industry approaches in drug development.

My research area is in pharmacology. I do basic science research in Neuroinflammation in the Mitchell as part of my Ph.D. I am want to take part in drug development and I am interested in this from a strong regulatory standpoint, the Certificate in Regulatory Science has allowed me to pursue this. Further, the Certificate in Regulatory Science has provided me with the tools to understand what drugs may potentially be applied to ameliorate neuroinflammatory conditions that I study. Carrying these skills forward, this certificate supports my understanding of the regulatory environment as I intend to apply to the FDA to evaluate therapeutic applications.
