(DRAFT) Pre-doc Preparatory Program (P3) in Translational Research

Join our next cohort of aspiring clinical and translational researchers (October 2026 – April 2027). We seek entry-level clinical research professionals who are preparing for medical or graduate school and want to become future leaders in translational research.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, you must:

  • Be nominated by your site principal investigator and have their approval for conditions of enrollment.
  • Have protected time on Fridays from 11am to 1pm ET to attend live sessions (October 2026 - April 2027). Note: Timing may shift for some in-person events.
  • Currently work as a research coordinator, genetic counseling assistant, or research technician involved in Global Leukodystrophy Initiative Clinical Trials Network (GLIA-CTN) activities or part of the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network (RDCRN) at your site. Exceptions may be made for other entry-level research staff who plan to pursue graduate or medical school education.
  • Be interested in growing your research career and seeking professional development opportunities. 
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Application and Selection Process

Before applying, talk with your Principal Investigator (PI) to confirm protected time for Friday sessions.

Step 1: PI Nomination

Investigators may nominate 1-2 participants per site by submitting a Scholar Nomination Form and Conditions of Enrollment.

Nominations for 2026-2027 open in May.

Step 2: Scholar Application

After your PI submits the nomination, you must complete your application by August 15.

Principal Investigators should contact Dr. Laura Adang and Jessica German for the Scholar Nomination Form and Conditions of Enrollment.

The P3 application includes both an online form and a set of supporting documents. Here's what you'll need to prepare:

In the online application form, you'll be asked to:

  • Share basic information about your personal, academic, and employment background

Please upload the following supplemental materials. Be sure to include your full name in the headers. 

  • CV/Resume highlighting your academic background, work experience, extracurricular activities, and any research or healthcare exposure
  • Personal Statement (1 paragraph) describing your professional goals, how participation in the P3 curriculum will help you achieve those goals, and your personal journey and experiences that will help shape the ITMAT community.
  1. Create an account in the application system
  2. Select 'Start New Application'
  3. On the 'Program Information' tab:
    1. Under "Degree", select "Non-degree".
    2. Under "Program", select "ITMAT Pre-doc Preparatory Program in Translational Research, non-degree". 
    3. Under "Term", select "Fall 2026"
  4. You can enter information in stages, at your own pace, and access the application any number of times until submission. 
  5. Once the application has been fully submitted, check the status.

Applications are reviewed by P3 Leadership in consultation with consortium sites. Applicants will be notified of decisions by late August. We anticipate accepting 1-2 scholars per site.
